It can be hard to make diet and lifestyle changes. Almost everyone can name one or more things that they know they should be better at – like eating vegetables, or drinking water. But how do you actually make those changes happen? And with new and contradicting studies on nutrition published almost daily, how do you even know that the information you have based your “shoulds” on is correct?

This is where Susan comes in. In her 12+ years of experience as a functional nutrition therapist, Susan has learned how to weed out the fads and fashions in nutrition science to glean the most safe and effective diet and lifestyle modifications that will help you reach your health goals. She will also prioritize her recommendations and break them down into doable steps that will make your success more easily attainable.

Susan will:

  • Help you to understand and implement the recommendations Dr. Chilkov makes for you.
  • Always treat you like the individual you are. There is no one-size-fits-all nutrition solution.
  • Back up every recommendation she makes with solid reasoning and explanations.
  • Always listen to your input, because you know more about your body than anyone else ever will.
  • Never be afraid to say “I don’t know”, and then do the necessary research.
  • Truly care for you and about you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Functional Nutrition Counseling?

Nutrition counseling is a one-on-one personalized consulting service in which a functional nutritionist provides customized, strategic support to help you achieve your health goals. Whether you’re trying to recover from treatment, lose weight, manage a new health condition, resolve digestive discomfort or create new healthy habits, your nutritionist creates individualized programs tailored to your needs and provides practical, compassionate advice and accountability.

What qualifications do your Functional Nutritionists have?

All of the Chilkov Clinic functional nutritionists have been personally trained by Dr. Chilkov and have also received certification as Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioners. Our nutritionists have also received additional trainings and certifications in nutrition, specific health conditions or other healing modalities.

How do I know if your Functional Nutritionist can help me?

Our functional nutritionists don’t diagnose or treat diseases but, instead, help patients make changes that improve their overall health and well-being across a range of health goals, conditions and concerns. If you’re not sure if a functional nutritionist would be helpful, call us today to ask about your specific circumstances and needs.

CLINICAL NUTRITION is the use of diet and nutritional supplements as a therapy and serves as the foundation of natural medicine. There is an ever-increasing body of knowledge that supports the use of whole foods and nutritional supplements in the maintenance of health and treatment of disease. Nutritional therapy focuses on using nutrients like vitamins, minerals and amino acids in appropriate doses.

  • Do you want to know which foods to eat and which vitamin and mineral supplements you should take?
  • Would you like dietary guidance for specific conditions such as Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Cancer Prevention, Multiple Sclerosis, Asthma, Food Allergies, etc.?
  • Do you want to know which foods are best for you and which foods you should avoid?
  • Would you like to find out which vitamin and minerals supplements you should be taking?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, a nutritional counseling session may be right for you. During a session, one of our Nutrition Coaches will develop a dietary plan for you to help you achieve your desired results.

Nutrients are the Building Blocks of Health
Diet and Nutrition form the building blocks of healthy cells and healthy function.
We evaluate each individual’s unique metabolic type and recommend the appropriate foods and diet to achieve and maintain robust health, a strong immune system, a sharp mind, stable mood and normal weight.

Therapeutic Diets for Specific Conditions
Many conditions such as cancer, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, arthritis, inflammatory bowel syndrome, acne and eczema, menstrual distress, and migraine headaches to name a few, respond very well to changes in diet and food choices. Patients with chronic illnesses can see dramatic changes in their conditions by following customized dietary plans. Many patients see a decrease in symptoms and a return to well being.

Nutritional Supplements for Optimal Function and Healthy Aging
Create robust health.
Prevent illness.
Slow down aging.

Optimal levels of nutrients are difficult to consume in a daily diet. We use only the highest quality nutritional supplements to provide optimal levels of vitamins, minerals and co-factors to create and support a high level of function. By providing all of the nutrients needed by our cells every day we build a strong system and are able to prevent illness, regain health and slow down the aging process.

Orthomolecular Nutritional Supplements to Manage Illness and Disease
Nutritional and Botanical supplements can be used to change function. Many patients are looking for alternatives to long-term drug therapy and wish to manage toxic drug side effects. In coordination with your physician we will help you put together a plan that is safe and effective. Dr. Chilkov uses the approach developed by Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling, Orthomolecular Nutritional Medicine. Dr. Pauling believes that if one is provided with the correct level of vitamin, mineral and nutritional input, the body can overcome disease.
