Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

Acupuncture Sessions

Acupuncture is an elegant and deep acting system that is used to profoundly change patterns in our bodies. Acupuncture is able to treat imbalances in the body, mind, emotions, and, spirit. To create deep and lasting change, acupuncture is done as a series of treatments. For chronic health patterns a series of 8-15 treatments is recommended. At the end of a series Dr. Chilkov will reevaluate your progress and recommend a long-term plan to sustain your health and well being.

Acupuncture may also be used to briefly treat acute conditions such as colds, flus, allergic reactions, injuries, or to support you during challenging and stressful life cycles.

Acupuncture may also be used to fine tune the human organism, to support optimal functioning and maintain a high level of wellness. Many of our long-term patients come in once per month or once per season for Well Patient Tune ups! These patients understand the model of promoting HEALTH and are rarely treated for illness once a stable and robust state of well being is achieved.

During Acupuncture sessions you will have the opportunity to discuss your current concerns, to ask questions, and to receive a deeply relaxing and balancing acupuncture treatment. Dr. Chilkov will reevaluate your condition and make any needed adjustments to your treatment plan.

What is Traditional Oriental Medicine?
Traditional Oriental Medicine is an ancient system based upon observing the Laws of Nature to create the conditions for Health.
Health is viewed as a state of harmony and balance.
Unlike conventional Western medicine, Oriental Medicine treats the whole person, seeing the body and mind as one integrated system.
Many people have discovered that Oriental Medicine is an effective approach to restoring vibrant health, managing stress, maintaining optimum well-being, and preventing illness. It is effective for physical, psychological, and emotional problems. Oriental Medicine includes Acupuncture, Botanical Medicine, Exercise and Dietary Therapies as well as Contemplative practices.

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the oldest continuously practiced medical system in the world, used by one-third of the world’s population as a primary health care system.

This highly effective system of medical care is based on natural laws that govern the movement of the universe, both in nature and in the body.

This energy, called “chi,” moves through the body in precise channels, supporting functions of the body, mind, and spirit. When chi is moving disharmoniously, imbalance begins to surface in the form of specific symptoms. To address the underlying cause of a condition, these symptoms are viewed in relationship to the totality of a person. The gentle insertion of hair-thin needles at specific points along the channels of chi energy help restore harmony. In the presence of this subtle yet profound intervention, symptoms often resolve and patients frequently experience renewed vitality.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has endorsed acupuncture treatment for over 40 conditions, including stress, digestive disorders, depression, allergies, sleeping disorders, addictions, headaches, and menstrual disorders.

Does Acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture is a deeply restful, healing experience. Most patients relax and fall asleep during the treatment, waking refreshed and restored. You will rest comfortably in a quiet room with low lighting and soft music for 30-45 minutes. After treatment, you can expect to feel less pain, more energy, and a heightened sense of well-being.
Acupuncture needles are very thin (the diameter of a thick hair) and flexible. The needle insertion is very gentle and feels like a momentary mosquito bite at the surface of the skin. The acupuncture points themselves are in muscle and are not near nerves or blood vessels. You will feel the sensation of the chi (life energy), which is a dull, warm, gentle grabbing sensation. Slowly you will drop down into a state of deep and restful relaxation.

How many treatments will I need?
Acupuncture and Natural Therapies work with the rhythm of nature to create a long-lasting change.

The number of treatments required depends on the severity and duration of the symptoms to be addressed. For a mild cold or flu, one or two treatments is sufficient. For serious or chronic health conditions of years or life-long duration, a longer course of treatment is required. Within the first 4-6 sessions, the effectiveness of the treatment is evident. For most patients with chronic conditions, we work together for one season, approximately three months. Over this time we build health where there was illness and lay a strong foundation for a long-lasting, stable solution. At the end of three months we evaluate our progress and discuss how to maintain newfound health and well-being. Dr. Chilkov will teach you deep self-care knowledge and valuable self-care tools to continue to nourish long-lasting health.
